About me

As a UK-based copywriter, journalist and editor, I provide specialist writing services to businesses and public sector organisations that need high-quality written communications and marketing.

I started out as a journalist working on local newspapers, and later in a press agency providing material for the nationals. I have also worked as an in-house copywriter for advertising agencies and as an editor in a non-fiction publishing company.

  • 25 years of professional writing experience
  • Freelance copywriter since 1997
  • Qualified journalist (National Council for the Training of Journalists National Proficiency Certificate – Sept ’93)
  • A former daily paper journalist and news editor
  • A former agency copywriter
  • Graduate in English Literature (University of York 1986).

I use this photo to prove that someone loves me, even if it's only my dog.

Proof that someone loves me, even if it’s only my dog. (Cynics have pointed out that she might be looking for food in my beard).

I write anything

  • IT and telecoms writing – from datasheets and white papers to brochures and web copy
  • Websites for small businesses that focus on bringing in clients and sales
  • Search engine optimised (SEO) copy
  • Case studies for all sectors and industries
  • Newsletters and articles for major companies and multinationals
  • Interviews with senior executives to generate in-depth reports and articles
  • Stakeholder communications, including Report & Accounts
  • Staff communications and recruitment material
  • Branding and tone of voice development
  • Blog posts and website content
I specialise in tackling complex and challenging subject matter and turning it into clear and compelling copy that communicates the core messages effectively.

Clear English – anywhere in the world

I’m based in England, UK, but provide  services world-wide. I’ve written extensively for clients as far afield as France, the USA, Canada, Ghana, China and Australia.

Better than a copywriting agency

I’m not a copywriting agency (or trying to look like one). I do all the work myself. If you need a team of writers, you may want to contact one of the larger agencies. I can even make some recommendations (although not totally unbiased, as I do quite a lot of work through several of them).
Of course, because I’m not a writing agency, I can offer:

  • A more personal copywriting service
  • The expert copywriter doing the work
  • One writer who really gets to know you and your organisation
  • A versatile copywriter who can meet all your copy requirements
  • Lower overheads – better value

Above all, I aim to provide a responsive service that is both professional and friendly. If you’d like to know more, give me a call
